Stop your fear of eating fat

Over the last couple of months, John and I have been working at getting as much "good" fat into our bodies as possible-and WE LOVE IT! That's right, we've been eating chicken skin, whole chicken eggs, beef and lamb fat, even more nuts and avocados, using coconut oil to cook with, consuming regular fat goat's milk; I'm even cooking up some yummy drumsticks tonight with the skin on and I'll be using beef lard.

Before you close the page and say "Raechelle is off her rocker!", have a look at these websites http://www.truthaboutabs.com/saturated-fat-is-not-evil.html and Weston A. Price  . If you do the research, you'll see how good saturated fat actually is for you, how necessary it is to healthy bodies, how when eaten in moderation it does not make you fat, and how basically non-fat and low fat foods have been a market scam based on fraudulent "science".

In the last two months of eating this way, neither of us have gained weight, (John has some fabulous abs!), and our strength has not diminished (I'm set to do my 50 raised push ups today!) and our energy levels have soared. Here is an example of a a day of my food intake:

1) Gluten free toast (home made) with organic peanut butter and local honey & cup of coffee w/honey and goat's milk.
2) 2 whole eggs fried w/a bit of olive oil served w/potato, home made salsa, natural Greek yogurt
3) handful of nut mix (peanuts, cashews & almonds w/dry fruit) and a mandarin orange ( I absolutely love the clementine's!)
4) leftovers from the night before
5) cottage cheese (unfortunately I can't find regular, so this is low fat-only until I can get my hands on regular-I may even cut it out entirely since it's got yucky fillers in it and just have the regular fat yogurt), flax oil & lemon juice, pineapple or some other fruit
6) Grilled thighs w/fat in tact (marinated in balsamic, a tad of olive oil (don't need much since they have the fat on them) garlic & herbs, butternut pumpkin squash patties made with coconut oil, quinoa tossed w/spinach, capers, basil & whole fat feta cheese.

I urge you to do your research and learn for yourself-fat is good-it's the trans fats and processed foods that are bad. Check it out for yourself!

The fear of fat that's been instilled in people drives me nuts - it's one of the biggest challenges I find when trying to get clients to improve their nutrition.

What about ricotta instead of cottage cheese, Raechelle? I just bought my favourite full-fat ricotta, fresh from the farm. Yum!

Oh, yummy idea Kerryn! Had not thought of that...thanks for the tip! ;-0

Yes-it is soooo hard to get people to understand-believe I almost had to be beaten over the head myself-LOL; the other issue though, is if they accept the fat idea-getting them to realise that the difference between the bad trans fats, and the good saturated fats-an uphill battle, but I think it's worth the climb-not just for combatting obesity-but so many health issues caused by the modern diet.
Thanks again-ricotta on the list!

I'm sooo happy to hear that you know that all natural fat is very healthy for the body! The woman who was my PT certainly does not know that! It is so unfortunate that most people are still deceived. Saturated fat, like other healthy fats, is needed to build bone, muscle, hormones... etc. It bugs the crap out of me when heart patients are erroneously put on low-fat diets! I learned the truth about fat in Dr. Diana Schwarzbein's books for starters. Raechelle, have you heard about Tim Ferriss yet? Awesome! www.fourhourbody.com
