“Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them; but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight... When we do the best we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another. ”

Did You Know...
That by chopping your potato before boiling you lose about 50% of the potassium content?
I just recently learned this by reading....
I really like this magazine; it has so many little tidbits of information, I pretty much learn something new in each magazine!
Did legs today....back problem magically disappeared overnight-YAY! Funny how these things appear out of nowhere and suddenly disappear again-but I'm not complaining that it's gone-LOL!
I'm still obsessed with the one legged squats-
I love this move because it is so hard; but there is no way in hell I will ever get that low-my ankle just won't bend like that-I even put a big ol' plate under my foot...it just ain't happening. I do go as low as I can-and it's hard and I stick my hanging leg straight out and keep it as up as possible the whole time. I am up to 6 squats on each side for 4 sets.
What's your obsession? What move do you have that's truly difficult for you but you are doing it every week to try to get better?
Keep challenging yourself!

Less Than Impressive...
That was my bench press yesterday folks :-(
I just wasn't focused at all and was only able to do ONE rep of 52K (just under 115lbs)-and realised this week TOM visits-DUH-going for a PB on bench press just before TOM-Not on. This is a fact-when it's TOM-we just aren't as strong-and more vulnerable to injury, which brings me to my other woes today...after getting back from my afternoon trek up the hill at the back of our property...I'm taking off my clothes to hop in the shower and-twinge in the back. Shit. John worked on it a little but today it's just a really achy knot-on top of my sacro acting up and of course lower back pain to go with the cramps-Don't ya' love it?! ;-)
But all of that aside...I had a very nice mediatation session this morning-I'm really getting into that again-and it's wonderful!
Now, I have to mention one of my favorite blogs-because if you haven't checked out KELLY O's AIM HIGH-you are really missing out on a good hit of UP! Her vlogs are just a hoot -I pretty much always get a giggle and we all know that laughter is the best medicine for everything! So, go on over and check out some KELLY O!
Oh-I almost forgot-I've decided to make TASTY TUESDAY on the first Tuesday of each month only-instead of every week. So-you'll have to wait untill next week for the next recipe!
Cheers! Have a great day!

Comp Stuff and Retail Therapy...

First of all-for all you competitors out there, don't forget about Jo Rogers' wonderful new Diva Consignments shop; great pre-loved outfits in fabulous condition!
Well, I have to say...I went for some retail therapy yesterday and -yup, just what the doctor ordered! I don't do much shopping, I just have to be in the totally right mood, and yesterday I was IN THE MOOD! Just the right timing too with the end of summer sales here; even though Feb 28 is the last day of summer, that doesn't mean much up in the tropics-so I can enjoy my summer sale gear for pretty much the rest of the year! I even bought a food processor, and I can't wait to try it out!
I don't usually go for the "buy something to feel better" idea...it's very non-Buddhist-grasping at something to feel good for a minute...But sometimes, a girls just gotta do what a girls gotta do-right? ;-)
Chest and shoulders tomorrow-I was planning on going for a bench press PB-but I just looked up my all time all PB from last year while training for the comp and I did a one rep max of 57K (125lbs); Last time I tried a PB was January 19-and I was only able to do 1.5 reps w/52K (just under 115lbs) for 2 sets. My shoulder gave out a bit, so I've had to rest it. So, tomorrow, I'm going to shoot for 54K for at least one full rep. My goal for this year will be to get to 60K(132lbs) for one rep-and that's at either the weight I'm at now (still 54K-119lbs) or less than that. So, there you have it!
Gotta keep challenging yourself people! Otherwise you're just shlogging along! And what's the point of that?!
And you certainly have no chance of looking like this....
if you're just shlogging!
ENJOY THE REST OF WEEK AND CHALLENGE YOURSELF!

GAME BACK ON!

Finally! I gotta tell ya’ll-I had been in a bit of a funk over the last few weeks-just not in the mood for much of anything, even my workouts have been somewhat half-assed. And my eating-not terribly on, my meditating-not really on…So, I’ve been reading blogs and checking out fit peeps-and finally something-or someone hit me the right way and now I’m ready to get back in there.
So-This weekend is all about back to the program-doing cardio in the afternoons- Monday-chest, shoulders & abs-going to go for a new PB on Bench press people-that's right-time to rock on again!
So-onward! How are you doing? Have you hit any stumbling blocks-we are all human and bound to get caught up in something once in a while-but the important thing is…eventually we will move past and move on!
Joy is exactly what’s happening, minus our opinion of it.-Joko Beck

Valentine's Day?

Though I try to be an optimist, I’m a realist and cynic at heart-and I can’t help but find a major distaste for the so-called “holidays” that simply make certain corporations much richer; Valentines Day, in my humble opinion, is just that.
I LOVE this “reflection” of Valentine’s Day by Nancy Gibbs of Time Magazine and frequent contributor to America’s “NEWSHOUR WITH JIM LEHRER”
Some holidays know who they are. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks; Independence Day celebrates freedom. But other holidays contradict themselves, and none more than Valentine's Day, which has about as much to do with love as the Easter Bunny has with resurrection.
For one thing, it's named after a martyr, which isn't a very promising start for a holiday meant to celebrate passion, not punishment.
In olden days, a typical observance involved bachelors pulling maiden's names out of an urn like a raffle. Nowadays, Valentine's Day is a favorite of 8-year-olds who come home from school with more candy than on any day other than Halloween, though this, too, seems a little odd for a holiday that shimmies into view in a pink feather boa and high heels.
Children alone can't account for the fact that a billion cards are sent every year -- second only to Christmas -- and 85 percent of them by women. For this, we can thank Esther Howland, a 1847 Mount Holyoke grad whose father owned a stationery store and who came up with the idea of mass-producing Valentines. The mother of the Valentine never married, but she did get very rich.
I'm suspicious of any holiday in which the greeting card business and the diamond cartel conspire. Greeting cards have their place -- congratulations on the new baby, joy and peace in 2009 -- but surely love should sing harmonies only you can hear, not the tinny pipe organ of the Hallmark serenade.
As for the diamonds, I like them as much as the next girl, but especially in this economy it would be nice for love to be associated with something warm and soft and accessible, not cold, hard and exorbitant.
My main frustration is that Valentine's Day only pretends to celebrate what we like about love while more often undermining it. Love is hope and madness and generosity; it asks for nothing in return. Valentine's Day easily evokes dread and duty and devotion put through a metal detector.
A million Web sites instruct men on what to give, lest they send the wrong signal or are reduced to relying on drugstore chocolates. Restaurants cue the violins and raise their prices. You can find matching Snoopy Valentine towels on eBay, not to mention naked Cupid refrigerator magnets.
There's nothing wrong with reveling in romance, and honoring friendship, and pausing in the bleak midwinter to tickle the people we love, but it's also a good sign of the state of your relationships if the day just saunters by and winks and you feel no need to pay much attention.
Love should fizz without champagne, should grow even in hard soil. The minute its expression feels like a duty, it has lost its bearings. "Love sought is good," Shakespeare observed, "but given unsought is better."

Will resume regular programming next week....
With the devastation of recent fires and floods across the land, my little fitness blog just feels even less important than usual. So-I'm taking a break this week and will get back into it by the weekend.
Hope ya'll are safe!
Cheers!

JUNK-FOOD PUSHERS

Almost every day now, I talk to someone or read a blog about friends, family & co-workers trying to push their s**t food on them when these gals are trying their darndest to get fit and be healthy. What is with these people?!
Why is it that WE the ones that are eating REAL food and taking care of ourselves are the odd ones out? Why do WE have to explain ourselves? How come YOU can shove that big, fat, ugly, greasy burger into your face and nobody bats an eye-WE sit down to a lovely colourful, healthy salad made with real vegetables and chicken with some low fat cottage cheese and everyone just has to start joking & asking questions; eating real food has become such a frickin’ novelty?! EEGADS!
Besides the fact that YOU are weak and lazy-YOU are also rude! Knowing your co-worker is desperately trying to stay on track and YOU put a cupcake down on a her desk, just to get your jollies! You’re mother obviously brought you up in a barn with manners like that!
Unfortunately, I know none of these types of people read my blog-otherwise I would love for them to give an answer to my question….Why do you feel the need to push your crap food onto US? Why, Why, Why?
I suppose then, ladies and gentlemen-it’s up to US to get these answers in person. WE need to lay down the law. After all, WE are the ones to decide what goes into our mouths-if WE want a salad with grilled chicken, WE will damn well have a salad with grilled chicken! And the next time THEY try to get their jollies by pushing their crap food into your face, ask them flat out “Why are you so desperate for me to eat that?-What is your purpose for wanting me to eat that? Do you have a reason or do you simply hate me?”
THEIR weakness just makes US stronger!

TASTY TUESDAY!
Parmesan-coated Sweet Potato Fries
These are soooo yummy! I saw them on Katie's blog ages ago and finally tried them in December-they are super yum and a much healthier alternative to actual fries!
They can be a be tedious with the first dipping (milk and flour)-so after the first time of making them I left that bit out. Still yum!
I suppose this is a bit of a cheat totally using someone elses recipe-but they are just so good! And sweet potatoes are packed full anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties! Bonus!
Have a great week!
