It’s no wonder people are confused about healthy eating when every time you turn around, established diet books and groups are re-inventing themselves to sell copies & win converts.
One day you’ve got the “South Beach Diet” pushing a low-carb regime and the next day they espouse the Mediterranean way which includes lots of carb rich fruits and vegetables. “Atkins” the well known no carb advocate is suddenly emphasizing “good carbs” too! “Weight Watchers”, for years championed the point system and now offers the ‘no-counting’ option….confused? Who wouldn’t be?
There are, though, four things that each “diet” acknowledges as basic rules to healthy eating. Hold on to your seats kids-these are shockers!
-Consume carbs in the form of whole grains and fiber
-Avoid trans fats and saturated fats
-Eat lean protein
-Fill up on fruits and vegetables
Amazing stuff-right? Well, to those of us who generally follow a healthy lifestyle-these are in fact very basic rules. You can call it anything you want-it’s simply eating right!
I say forget the “diets”…It’s got to be a lifestyle shift; changing the mind set to make healthier choices. Eating with moderation in mind, not deprivation; eat in a way you can live with!

Hi Raechelle
I roll my eyes every time I read about a new fad diet. I was reading in yesterday's paper about the 'detox diets' being slammed as a quick fix. I think they were talking about the 'detox pills' where you take them for a month. And they did say something right...nothing that a clean, healthy diet with regular exercise won't fix...just takes longer. Oh!...and they mentioned the words..."as a lifestyle change". But, it's often the simple things that are the hardest to do.
Ahh you are just a fountain of knowledge eh? All common sense stuff really... fads are just that.
So simple yet so true. I'm finally trusting myself enough to just eat healthy and workout, instead of panicking on whether I'm in the right proportion of protein/carbs/fats blah blah blah. And guess what? i'm feeling great and starting to lean out! Go figure!
;-)
XOXO
I hate the word "diet". To me it implies there is an end and what happens when the diet finishes? You go back to your old ways and put it all back on. I'm speaking from experience here but feel I've finally found the "secret" - anything and everything in moderation and yes Raechelle I do have a sweet tooth!
Amen sista!! I'm so careful to try and avoid using the word "diet"... "clean eating" much better describes what we're all trying to achieve.
As for the service at the counter experience you had the other day... I cannot believe how rude the people in customer service are these days. They really need to take their role description and break it down... "Customer Service"... to give service to the customer, not attitude!! At the risk of sounding old, I just think it's the younger generation. They just have such a "me, me, me" mentality. But enough about that... I could rant on about that all day!!
Keep up the awesome training hon xxx
You always manage to find the "right" media coverage KERRY-too bad it's not the headline though-LOL But yes-the simplest things are usually the hardest (in our minds!) :-)
Yes CHRIS fads are just that-too bad so many people are uneducated and fall for them!
Good girl KELLY! After everything you've read about and talked about-I think you have the right to trust yourself!
Too right SHELLY-no end -simply change!
Thanks RAE! Yes- Clean eating is really the best way to describe it!
Glad you agree with the customer service rant.....seems to me us customers need to do something about this! hmmmmmmm....
Water with me garlic bread! OH Yaaa I'm saved! I'm NOT having any garlic bread... so won't have to have any bloody water either eh? lol
Raechelle,
Have a look at this:
Click Me
Its a pretty interesting diet that targets Candida, Hypoglycemia and food intolerance. Zoe Harcombe, the creator of that diet idea has some videos on youtube also.
Basically you kill the Candida and get no food cravings. You keep the sugar levels (hypoglycemia) in check and dont feel burnt out and sleepy and kick food intolerances so you dont get any digestive discomfort.
Thanks ROSS-I'll check it out.
right on! but unfortunately in the weight loss industry common sense doesn't make a lot of $$$, its in their interests to keep people confused.
