Are we fit chicks a strange brew?

After leaving a blog comment about how much we gals love DOMS, I started thinking about all of the blogs I’ve read and written paying homage to the dreaded & loved DOMS. This lead me to start thinking about OTHER people. You know-people that have no interest in working out or simply do it because they know they should and people that think gals that workout HARD, with real weights, shooting for DOMS, are a different breed. These people do not have the love/hate relationship w/DOMS, or fitness in general that we (that secret strange sect of women) all share. And in that shared love-we all have the appreciation and respect of each other! It’s this common thread that brings us all together.

Then I read earlier this week a post by “muslfettish” on her Divatude blog (a must read for those who admire and strive for that fit “figure” physique). The blog talks about those “other” people who scoff at women that workout hard and maintain fit, muscular bods; because the women of these “other” people just want to “tone up a bit”-not be muscular, and the men of these “other” people just think it’s not right for women to be muscular.

And this all brings me to today’s title “Are we a strange brew?”

I THINK NOT!

What on earth is strange about wanting to sculpt a beautiful body? What is strange about pushing yourself through physical challenges of endurance & strength? What is strange about wanting to be healthier and stronger at 40 or 50 than that neighbour chick who at 25 can’t even pick up a 20K bag of dog food let alone bench press her own body weight?!

I love the end of the Divatude blog “You don't want to look like me you say?...congrats, keep doing what your doing and I'll keep doing what I'm doing cause I don't want to look like you either.”

I recall Katie’s anthem to the Women Warriors and the phrase “we continue to fight to transform our past selves into better, stronger, indestructible versions of ourselves.” and I think, yep that’s what we are doing…nothing wrong with that!

SUNDAY STATS!

So, for my own ongoing maintenance-here is where I’m at -Weight is 53.9 (118lbs)-I'm total PMS bloat right now though.
On with my skin folds.
Tri-7
Sub-6.5
Supra-20
Abs-20
Thigh-16
Body fat= 19%
So I’m up-but my abs are showing so, again, I know it’s just water. The mirror speaks louder than the numbers!

No computer tomorrow! See ya’ for Tasty Tuesday!

We aren't any stranger than people who scrapbook, trainspot or play computer games for hours on end [yes I am talking to you sitting behind me Mr] except that the results of our obsession are both visible to the world and beneficial for our health.

Comparisons don't really matter - if we love what we do, DOMs and all, then our lives are rich and full of joy and adventure.
xx

I'm with KatieP! Our interests (or obsessions), make us what we are - individuals. And at least by being concerned for our physical well-being, we are not a burden on society...physically, mentally, financially, or otherwise. In fact, we become role models for society, because we effect change directly and indirectly, through what and who we become.

Ciao...Kerry :)

Love this post girl. And strut your stuff. It doesn't even affect me anymore when people make comments like that. I think it is more ridiculous that they don't realize how bitter they sound when they "cut down" on someone else's dream. It's called TACT people. Get some.

Love your blog, isn't it a shame that we are "strange" and all the overweight, obese, lazy people are considered normal - what does that say about society! When someone says to me "WHAT??? why won't you eat cakes??" I always want to say..."Cause I dont want to look like you do... but I juust bite my tongue and say.. "Cause I'm strange" LOL

I think trying to look your best and taking care of your body speaks volumes that you care about yourself. and muscles are beautiful!

My house mate and her bf are always having a go at me over the way I eat, and how often, and the foods I eat - they think its gross, I think the pastries they eat are gross ;)
I still dont have a go at them about it all, I think a lot of the time its a jealousy thing....

Too true LINDA-and I fully agree-muscle is beautiful!
